Mid-Week Check In

Our task this week is to pray at least 10 minutes a day in whatever way appeals to you. That can be for two minutes at a time 5 times a day, or 10 minutes all at once, or however works best for you. You can pray for longer, obviously, but to truly try this at least be deliberate about it 10 minutes a day.

What has this experience been like for you so far this week? What types of prayer have you used? What responses, if any, have you received?

I've been finding the 10 minutes of intentional prayer to be very
calming. I've been so stressed this week and my prayer time has
really helped me. Plus, I've been praying for help and I think I'm
getting it. :-)

I've been praying in my car. The first two days I prayed for 10 minutes on the way to work, and yesterday 5 minutes going into work and 5 minutes back. My prayer focus mostly on giving thanks for the many blessings in my life, asking for things like patience when dealing with others, turning over some things to God, and asking for God to bless others. I'm finding that praying daily helps me stay centered and positive.

It may be strange to think of praying with a computer in your lap but lately my prayer time begins and ends with a visit to gratefulness.org for the angel of the hour. That begins my prayer time in the proper spirit along with the lighting of a candle and some incense in my prayer corner. I then spend a few minutes in devotional reading (presently NT Wright's "Reflecting the Glory") and then move on to intercessory prayer for myself, my family, my community, and the world. Finally I close with the computer again lighting some online candles for peace, healing, and reconciliation.

This deliberate time with God has calmed me down and made me much more peaceful in an incredibly stressful period of my life. Always before I would withdraw from God in times like these. Now I sit in God's lap and rest in the knowledge I am safe and loved. It has made a tremendous difference in my life.
